Start Me Up

I’m hoping it’s apropos to use a song title from the self-proclaimed “Greatest Rock Band in the World”, ‪The Rolling Stones‬, to launch the maiden voyage of my QSKY Radio blog. Were they, though? “The Greatest”?

You’ve undoubtedly heard the old adage “Beauty is in the eye of the beholder”. Here at QSKY, we believe “Beauty is in the ear of the beholder ”. So, if the Stones are “The Greatest Rock Band” it’s totally up to you.

We want the beauty of QSKY to be just that.
You. Our team. Our listeners.

Whoa, wait! I Never Told You What I Do For A Living.

Please Allow Me To Introduce Myself. I am Kris Catz, Program Director, DJ, and your co-captain for QSKY Radio’s Air Force. (See what I did there, Air Force, airwaves, sky….no? uhhhh….anyway…) At QSKY you might hear the beauty of Rock & Roll. Or Calypso, Blues, Jazz, Reggae, Oldies, Beach music, that’s up to your DJs, your Pilots of the Airwaves, and, it’s up to you.

We want to know what you want to hear.
We want to know if you’d like to join the QSKY Radio Air Force, fill out an application you can find here on our website.

Me? I’m just a rock jock, and I can’t explain much better than the immortal words of ‪David Bowie‬, “I am a DJ, I Am What I Play”.

What are you?

Here…whoever you want to be. Let’s Go Crazy, The QSKY’s the limit. So, Roll Up, Roll Up for the Mystery Tour.

How to create a voice clip for your DJ Application

Along with your application, you’ll need a demo file. It is not that hard to create your audition or demo file if you prepare, practice and plan. Remember for our purposes, your voice file should be mp3 or wav.

Difficulty: Average

Time Required: 2 – 3 Hours

Here’s How:

  1. Find a recording good audio recording source. Your best bet is a computer.
  2. Find and install a program to record your voice. “Audacity” is a free recording application which would be easy to use or google recording applications if you don’t already have one.
  3. Install the software and attach a USB microphone to your computer. Prepare some sample scripts to include: a station announcement is required, but feel free to include a short: 30-second commercial, and maybe a promotional announcement. (The station announcement should include your name/DJ name, our station name, and a set of songs)
  4. You should label your file with your name and that its a voice clip audition file. For example: john-doe-audition-clip.mp3
  5. Decide the order you will record your scripts in.
  6. Practice what you want to say, sound natural and sound friendly. (Tip: smile when you speak. People can tell the difference in your voice.)
  7. Record your voice with the scripts you have prepared.
  8. When you are satisfied with your presentation, mix the file down and save it to your computer.
  9. Include your voice clip with the application.Don’t worry about being fancy. We understand. we basically want to just get an idea about you.
