An investment firm recently completed the purchase of 333 South Hope Street in downtown Los Angeles – an address home to one of the city’s tallest and most recognizable skyscrapers.
Capital Group announced that the 55-story Bank of America Plaza will serve as the site of their new corporate headquarters. In a press release issued two weeks ago, the company said the building will “create a unique vertical campus” and supports its wider expansion, which includes the opening of a new office in Charlotte this year.
“Over time, all Los Angeles based associates, currently working across three locations, will co-locate into one vertical campus. Capital Group today occupies 14 floors of the building and expects to add another 5 floors when all associates are co-located,” the company says.
As stated in the release, Capital Group’s purchase also follows a $70 million per year investment to expand the company’s client-facing capabilities, which includes the addition of more than 125 sales and sales support jobs over the next two years, many in L.A.
It should be noted that Capital Group signed their initial lease at 333 South Hope Street in 1976 — just a year after the building was completed — and has occupied it since 1978. They will keep the building as a multi-tenant facility but Capital Group will be the largest and anchor tenant, according to the press release.
The Bank of America Plaza stands 735 feet tall, making it the seventh-highest building in Los Angeles. It used to be known as Security Pacific Plaza and bear Security Pacific National Bank’s name and logo, but that changed in 1992 when Bank of America bought Security Pacific.
According to IMDb, the building has been in several movies, including in the 2023 “Barbie” film as well as 1984’s “Night of the Comet” and even “The Muppets.”
