A woman and her suspected shooter remain hospitalized with serious injuries after an “isolated  incident involving individuals in a personal relationship,” the Colton Police Department said.

Police officers responded to the 1400 block of Bordwell Avenue in Colton at 8:57 a.m. Thursday. At the scene, officers found a 48-year-old woman from Colton suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. They also found the suspected shooter, 45-year-old Kenneth Eric McCovery suffering from a single gunshot wound to the head.

The woman and the suspected shooter are receiving treatment at local trauma centers. The woman is in critical but stable condition, according to police. McCovery is suffering from life-threatening injuries.

“Officers immediately began lifesaving measures until emergency medical personnel arrived,” Colton PD said.

Police are investigating the shooting as an attempted murder case. Anyone with information about the case is asked to contact Colton PD Detective I. Jaramillo at (909) 370-5142 or by email at ljaramillo@coltonca.gov.

The case is not suspected to be related to another shooting that happened in Colton on July 19, which left two men hospitalized. The July 19 shooting is also under investigation as an attempted murder case.
